If you're a B2B distributor, wholesaler, or OEM/private-label buyer sourcing LONGi solar panels, this checklist is for you. It's especially relevant if you're quoting a LONGi 580W solar panel, building a solar panel catalog for a new market, or trying to clean up solar panel compliance requirements before a shipment lands.
I'm an office administrator for a 120-person solar distributor. I manage vendor onboarding, sample orders, and compliance document requests—roughly $2.5M annually across 12 suppliers. - Dimensions, weight, frame, glass type
- Connector type and cable length
- Bifaciality factor, if it's a bifacial dual-glass module
- Certifications listed in the datasheet

Step 3: Match the photovoltaic module to the project, not just the price
A photovoltaic module that's cheap per watt can be expensive if it doesn't fit the racking, inverter, or local code. Before you lock a quote, check compatibility:
- String sizing and inverter window
- Mechanical load rating (snow and wind)
- Fire rating and roof setback requirements
- Bifacial gain assumptions and albedo

At a minimum, confirm:
- IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 design qualification and safety testing
- UL 61730 listing for U.S. projects, where required

- Fire rating and building code compliance
- CE / UKCA marking for applicable markets
- IEC 62804 PID resistance, if relevant to your environment
- ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 manufacturing certifications
Per IEC 61215-1:2021 and IEC 61730-1:2023, modules must pass design qualification and safety testing. Verify current requirements at IEC or UL, and check with your AHJ. Certificates should include scope, standard edition, and validity dates. Expired or partial certificates are a red flag.
I should add: compliance documents are not just for your customer. Finance may need them for audits, and your warranty claims can depend on them later.
Step 5: Calculate total landed cost, not just $/W
The lowest quoted price often isn't the lowest total cost. This is the value-over-price argument in practice. Total cost of ownership includes:
- Base module price
- Freight, insurance, and duties
- Tariffs and customs clearance
- Compliance documentation and testing
- Storage and handling
- Financing and currency risk
- Warranty administration and potential rework
Saved $4,800 by choosing a broker without full documentation. Ended up spending $26,000 on expedited replacements and legal review when the utility rejected the submittal. That's not a hypothetical. That's the kind of math that makes a CFO ask why the 'cheap' option wasn't cheap.
If you're comparing LONGi solar panels from two suppliers, ask for a landed-cost breakdown. Then add the cost of a delayed project. The difference usually isn't the module price—it's the risk around it.
Step 6: Run a pilot order and inspect before scaling
Don't scale a new supplier on the first container. Order a pilot batch—or at least a sample—and inspect it. It took about three weeks—or rather, closer to four when you count the compliance review. That's normal.
Check:
- Packaging integrity and moisture protection
- Serial numbers and labels
- Flash test data and power tolerance
- Electroluminescence (EL) images, if available
- Microcracks, frame damage, or glass chips
- Connector compatibility and cable length
They delivered on time. (Should mention: we'd built in a 5-day buffer.) That buffer saved us when two pallets arrived with damaged corners. We still had time to replace them before the customer's install date.
Step 7: Lock the warranty, claims, and document retention process
Warranty terms are part of the product. Before you finalize an OEM/private-label or wholesale agreement, get the warranty documents in writing. Understand:
- Product warranty length and coverage
- Performance warranty terms
- Who files the claim—you or the end customer
- Who pays shipping for replacements
- How claims are tracked and resolved
- What happens if LONGi updates a model or discontinues it
